In the 5th-6th century, St. Benedict left the world disgusted with the prevailing ideologies of his time. He sought God's peace in a cave and the devil relentlessly attacked him. It was said that he made the "Sign of the Cross" over the demonic creature and at other times, he picked up two wooden sticks and formed these together as a cross. He battled the enemy. In his seclusion, he shared his loaf of bread daily with a raven who would visit him. An attempt on his life was made when he was asked to drink a poisoned wine before he left the monastery. Thus, the image of a broken glass is depicted in the medal.

His envious fellow monks attempted to kill him again giving him a poisoned loaf of bread. St. Benedict commanded the raven to carry it away in between its beak so no one will be harmed by it. The raven obeyed. Thus, the symbol of bread between the beak of the raven in the medal.

To the right of St. Benedict image is a cup with a serpent, representing the poisoned cup of wine that shattered after he blessed it.

6. To provide our members an opportunity to be part of the "Joyful Hope Missionaries" mission and fund their campaigns for the new evangelization
